Words to Live By Since 1993 A SPIFF Publication Vol. 2, No. 12 Hey, Bill! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Once Again, It's Us vs. Them Once again, we are witness to examples of what separates us from them. Events in three places last week pointed out the difference between belief in people and belief in government. As President Clinton arrived in Colorado, she was greeted by a banner that said, "Give 'em health, Hillary." She was, of course, delighted to see this comment from a member of her 43% constituency. Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, Bill Clinton was giving a speech in which he noted the banner that had welcomed his wife. Since the new Whitewater_er, House strategy is to blame the opponents of Clinton policy for the Whitewater mess, Bill decided to tie scandal and policy together. (Of course, in this administration, it is difficult to tell the two apart.) Bill told the crowd that the "enemies" of health reform are "giving me hell so I can't give you health." News flash to Bill...you can't give anybody anything! You can keep creating more government, more programs, and more bureaucracy, but you can't give anybody anything! You can keep doling out welfare checks, but you just wreck the lives of the people who get them. You can say you want to give us health, but you will only make things worse. You people couldn't figure out a land deal. How do you think you can run a health system? You see, this is where we are different from them. They really do believe that government can take better care of us than we can. Can anyone who reads WTLB tell us of one example of a government program that does its job efficiently and without an outrageous cost? Hmmmm? We are waiting. People talk about "compromise" and "working together" but how can you compromise with someone who can give us health? We at Spiff know of only one being who can give health, and if we were in a public school right now, we couldn't talk about it. If you are ever looking for the line that divides philosophies, listen to what Bill and Hillary say. You won't have to look far. On the heels of this arrogance came testimony before Congress from Louis Freeh, President Clinton and Bill's new FBI director. It seems that Judge Freeh supports the idea of a new law that would force all communications companies to make their lines "wire-tap friendly." This would be accomplished with a new computer chip that the government would install. The government through these chips, would have access codes that would allow them to tap into any phone and listen to conversations at any time. Judge Freeh says that this would help in law enforcement. But is his law enforcement worth our privacy? Big Brother, er, Sister is watching. Put Up or Shut Up. All right. They blustered against President Bush all through the 1992 campaign. Now that the government of China has told us to mind our own business, the time has come for President Clinton and Bill to put their Most Favored Nation trade status where their mouth is. With their naive (or just dumb) foreign policy, the Clintons are now backed into a corner on this issue. Will they kill MFN status for China and lose a market of a billion people and the only country with influence over North Korea? Or will they back away from the threat just like they have time and again in other foreign Crises? Once again we are witness to big talk and little action. For political gain they criticized Bush foreign policy on China's human rights record, Haiti, Bosnia, and Somalia. Until they unloaded the U-Haul from Little Rock and found the real world to be a much different place. Since then we've had the disaster in Somalia, our ships turned away from Haiti by thugs, we have seen the Europeans take the lead on Bosnia, (and you have to be really weak to be behind the Europeans on anything) and we have seen the Chinese thumb their noses at us. My, what confidence this instills. Democrat Principles Last week's Illinois primary revealed a few of the deep, guiding principles of Democrats and liberals. (Is there a difference?) You are by now familiar with our vast electronic spy network. We recently intercepted these principles using our new, Louis Freeh computer chip as they were transmitted from the Democrat national offices in Washington to Chicago. Democrats are for change. (Except for Dan Rostenkowski.) Democrats are for ethics. (Except for Dan Rostenkowski.) Democrats want to cut pork spending. (Except for Dan Rostenkowski.) Democrat presidents and their husbands will never get involved in Democrat primaries. (Except to help Dan Rostenkowski.) Yes, Bill, Yes "Why then are we confronted in this administration with an opposition party that just stands up and says, 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no'?" How many ways are there to answer that question? There's "Because the opposition party cares about America's future." Or "Because you keep asking stupid questions." Or "So you'll hear it better." Our answer to the question, though, is this: As usual, Bill, you're wrong. The Republicans do not just stand up and say, "No." In fact, we here at Spiff believe that the Republicans should stand up and say, "No" a little more often. You and President Clinton want socialized medicine, and the Republicans in Congress stand up and say, "Yes, but not your way." There are some exceptions--a few Congressmen who want to improve America's health without creating another huge government bureaucracy--but not enough. Here are some more examples in which the Republicans say, "Yes." Do you want America to continue to have the greatest medical care in the world? Yes. That's why we oppose the Clinton Comprehensive Care Plan. Do you want welfare reform? Yes. Do you want to reduce crime in America? Yes. We want crime to be prevented. We want our police to be able to arrest criminals. We want criminals punished. And if all else fails, we want to be able to protect ourselves, our property, and our families with our guns. Do you want lobby reform? Yes. We want our public servants to stop taking bribes. Do you want campaign finance reform? Yes. We don't want our tax dollars to go toward campaigns any more. We want term limits. Quote of the weak: "No (thud) No (thud) No (thud) No (thud) No (thud) No (thud) No (thud) No (thud) No (thud)!" Bill Clinton Quote of the strong: "If you become a burning light of justice and peace in the world, then really you will be true to what the founders of this country stood for. God bless you!"
